& GIRLS

Over the past year or so, I’ve had the distinct pleasure of getting to know my Representative of New Jersey’s 12th District, Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman. She, to put it in simple terms, is a savage. Easily one of the most empowering and headstrong leaders that we have in Congress to date, I feel lucky to have been given the chance to work alongside the congresswoman. And, in classic fashion, she is coming out with her latest edition of advocation for young women of color via The Congressional Caucus of Black Women & Girls: The Miseducation of Girls

This event is open to all black girls from middle to high school and any adult mentors, educators or parents who wish to attend. This is an extraordinary opportunity in which girls, who are typically not granted a platform for themselves, are able to come together and discuss issues and topics which disproportionally effect them- especially as it pertains to a classroom setting.

Black women are easily among the ranks of some of the most systemically disenfranchised members of society. The Congresswoman and her team recognize and work to alleviate this issue through empowerment and education. We in New Jersey’s 12th district are lucky to have someone in Washington who really looks out for our interests, and I encourage all WOC to attend and to take the most out of what the program has to offer.
