OOOOOO DAMN, THAT’S JUICY

So lets be honest…I really do love my junk foods, huge meals and desserts with every meal but fairly often I go on a big health kick that includes lots of leafy greens, interesting grains and JUICES.

After my trip, filled with large cuts of meat, big baskets of bread and croissant and lots of potato i felt like I needed a big cleanse, a detox if you will. So when I got home I went to the store and bought lots of veggies. I ended up buying $20 of produce which included purple kale, cilantro, fresh spinach, romaine lettuce, apples, ginger, a jalapeño, a cucumber, and a bag of lemons.

I made two juices, one that I drink in the morning, a very dark green one that my mom said looked like pond scum and one apple cider vinegar one that I drink after lunch. I really like both and challenge you to invest in a juicer if you don’t have one already and make them for yourself.

Green Juice

1 head of Romaine lettuce

1/2 – a whole Jalapeño

A handful of Fresh Spinach

5-8 Leaves of Kale (any kind you like)

3 Apples

A handful of cilantro

1/2 cucumber

2 big chunks of Ginger

Juice from 2 lemons

If you haven’t juiced before don’t be scared because the hardest part is cleaning up. All you do is turn on your juicer then feed in all your ingredients making sure to press all of them down through the grater and boom…you have some lovely juice. I transferred my juice into a big glass pitcher and every morning I pour a glass that is 1 part green juice and 1 part coconut water.

ACV-Lemon Juice

Juice from 4-5 lemons

2-5 Tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar

1 Tablespoon Tumeric

2 Teaspoons Cayenne

2-4 cups Water

Begin by juicing your lemons and adding the juice to a big pitcher or jar. Then add in your apple cider vinegar and feel free to add as much or as little as you want, its up to you! Apple cider vinegar lowers blood sugar levels, fights diabetes, makes you feel full and aids in weight loss, all while reducing your risk of heart diseases. Next add in the tumeric and cayenne and stir violently until combined. Tumeric and Cayenne have a lot of health benefits and will help cleanse and refresh the body. Then top off with water. I typically add enough water to double the liquid, making it 1 part lemon-ACV mix and 1 part water but that makes it pretty strong so add water to your liking. This juice is super good for you and will definitely help you stay full while detoxifying your body but it might burn the back of your throat a little so heads up!

  1. Sounds Healthy. I make a lot of smoothies although I guess they are really just ground up fruit as I usually only add water to the frozen fruit, I used to add yogurt or milk but found I actually prefer without it. I did recently start adding spinach to my smoothies to get some veggies that clearly I don’t eat enough of but I never actually juiced. I guess I should start adding more veggies and give it a shot. Great pictures!
